KARACHI: Two travelogues by Qaiser Saleem on his visit to Libya and
the United States were launched on Sunday. Dr Hanif Fauq presided over the
proceedings.
Mr Saleem, an engineer, is a widely-travelled person
and is the author of eight books - fiction and travel accounts.
Prof Riaz Siddique and Saba Ikram spoke about the book,
Banda-i-Sehrai, based on the socio-political conditions of Libya and the
Islamic Socialist revolution led by President Moammar Qadhafi.
Prof Raza Kazmi gave his comments on the book 'America: Musarrat
ki talash mein' (America: in search of happiness). Sohail Ghazipuri and
Rais Baaghi paid their tributes to the author in verse. Concluding, Qaiser
Saleem read out some pieces from his books which the audience really
enjoyed.
Dr Hanif Fauq praised the author for his commitment to
writing, his socio-political studies in two countries diametrically
opposed to each other and expressing his balanced views on both. The US,
being a sole superpower in the unipolar world and leader of the capitalist
world, is opposed to Libya's economic policies but the system adopted by
President Qadhafi is in the best interest of his nation and the people.
Dr Fauq said the Libyans with the rich resource of oil had
survived the onslaughts of the mighty world power and hopefully would be
able to retain their economic and political independence.
