COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will learn to prepare Web documents which are appropriate for use in business or professional Web sites. After being introduced to web page design, they will customize basic text documents and add features such as tables, images, forms, and incorporate sound and animation.  Troubleshooting techniques, developing site specifications and methods to increase the appeal and effectiveness of Web sites are included.  Lecture:  2 hours.  Laboratory: 0 hours. Prerequisites: Previous HTML experience or BE 152/CIS 152.

COMPETENCIES:

 Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the student can:

     1. Customize templates;

     2. Design Web documents and define specifications for access providers;

     3. Describe the relationship of links to search engines;

     4. Use logical and physical styles for character formatting;

     5. Add images, forms and tables to the Web document;

    6. Identify common file types and link these to the Web document to add external images, sounds and animation sequences;

     7. Apply principles of design to make Web documents appealing;

     8. Troubleshoot potential coding problems, validate code and make adjustments for browser display   differences; and,

     9. Demonstrate secure web page design.

Course Objective: To introduce students to the solution of realistic problems of web designing using HTML.

Withdrawal Policy: The last day to withdraw from this course is the mid-term date listed in the college schedule.

Grading: Attendance is required at all class sessions. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to contact a classmate to find out what you have missed. You are responsible for remaining current with the class.

There will be numerous lab and homework assignments and two tests. It is your responsibility to see that your assignments are turned in during the class time on the due date.

Grading is as follows:

       Tests: (2 X 25%)  50%

      Assignments: 50%

        Total:   100% (Note: less than 70% of assignments completion would result in failing grade regardless of grades obtained in the tests)

  • Grading Scale:
    •    90 – 100% = A
         80 –  89% = B
         70 –  79% = C
         60 –  69% = D
         Below 60%= E

  • Note: tests will be given at the Schedule time. Students will not be given makeup tests unless consent of the instructor has been given and arrangements made prior to missing a test. A student may not request for more than one make-up test. Makeup test may be more difficult than the test given on the schedule.

         Students will demonstrate basic skill in computer operations by completing the required assignments.

         Students  will fulfill this competency by completing several assignments in word processing. The assignments are to be clearly communicated using proper grammar and punctuation.

         Students will fulfill this competency by creating a database and writing basic reports on it, and by creating a financial spreadsheet and make "what-if" type projection on it

        Creative Thinking: To elaborate upon knowledge to create thoughts, processes, and/or products that are new to the students.

          Students will fulfill this competency by creating documents, databases, spreadsheets and the Internet research.

        Ethics/Values: To demonstrate  an awareness of ethical considerations in making value choices

         Students will fulfill this competency by completing by discussions of ethical issues such as copyright, privacy, security and property as
